Motorcycle Training Course Registration

ALL TOPS CLASSES ARE HELD AT ELGIN COMMUNITY COLLEGE IN THE TRUCK EDUCATION LOT ADJACENT TO LOT A ON THE EAST SIDE OF CAMPUS.

Motorcycle Training Course Requirements

In order to attend a T.O.P.S. Motorcycle Training Course, you must provide your own motorcycle, a valid "M" classification on your driver's license, proof of vehicle insurance, a helmet (DOT or Snell approved), eye protection, gloves (full-fingered preferred), over-the-ankle-boots, long pants (preferably jeans) and a long-sleeved shirt or jacket is recommended.

TOPS I: Advanced riding course introducing riders to the life saving principles and techniques once reserved solely for Law Enforcement. Riders will learn how to properly brake in emergency situations by utilizing the Threshold Braking technique, brake and evade techniques, hazard Identification and avoidance, counter steering maneuvers at real road speeds, and intersection preparedness and hazard escape techniques. Riders will also be introduced to low speed balance and control techniques to effectively execute the survival techniques presented in the course curriculum.
  • 6 Student Maximum
  • More repetitions per rider
  • Better student-to-instructor ratio
  • More one-on-one instruction
TOPS II: This “next evolution” class is for the TOPS rider who is looking to take their skill set to the next level. TOPS II will focus on precision riding techniques which will enhance the rider’s low speed balance, rapid direction change, and control of the motorcycle which will improve both confidence and competence. This program is very limited to only those riders who have completed TOPS I, and class size will be reduced to only 4 students per class.

DISCLAIMER: RIDER MUST BE ABLE TO MAKE A 180 DEGREE TURN WITHIN THE CONFINES OF 20 FEET IN BOTH DIRECTIONS
