How much does the T.O.P.S. class cost?
  • Each class is held during an 8 hour day, the classes cost breakdown is as follows: TOPS I – $225 or $175 for Refresher students, and TOPS II – $300 or $250 for Refresher students.
Do I need a motorcycle?
  • Yes. T.O.P.S. is designed for the rider to learn how to control THEIR motorcycle, not a loaner or rental. One year riding experience or completion of a basic course is required.
What condition does my motorcycle need to be in?
  • All motorcycles need to be in good operating condition. It is the student's responsibility to ensure their motorcycle is capable of handling the rigors of the TOPS curriculum.
Do I need a helmet?
  • Yes. Safety is of the utmost importance and it is one of the principles T.O.P.S. was founded on.
What other gear do I need?
  • All students will be required to have a DOT or SNELL approved helmet, long pants (preferably jeans), over the ankle boots, eye protection, long sleeved shirt or jacket and gloves (preferably full fingered).
What if I show up without the proper gear?
  • All students will be required to bring the aforementioned equipment. Without the proper gear, you will not be allowed on the training site and no refund will be issued.
What documents do I need to bring?
  • Each student will need to bring their VALID driver’s license showing the proper M classification. You will also need to show VALID proof of insurance on THE MOTORCYCLE YOU ARE USING THAT DAY. This information will be cross referenced with the registration form faxed to T.O.P.S. prior to attending.
How old do I need to be to attend T.O.P.S.?
  • Students must be 18 years of age or older to attend all T.O.P.S. courses.
Does T.O.P.S. hold classes if it rains?
  • Yes. We ride rain or shine, heat or cold. Please plan on dressing accordingly.
What is the T.O.P.S. Cancellation policy?
  • Either T.O.P.S. or the student may cancel up to one week prior to the scheduled class. Should a T.O.P.S. course be cancelled, the student will have the option of a full refund or rescheduling for a future class.
Are there any refunds for cancelling before the class?
  • T.O.P.S. must receive notification of cancellation no later than one week prior to the scheduled class to qualify for a full refund.
What forms of payment does T.O.P.S. accept?
  • All registrations prior to classes are taken online via Pay Pal and all major credit cards are accepted. If you are a walk-in registrant the day of class, the only form of payment accepted will be cash or check.
Do you offer Group Rate Discounts?
  • Yes, in order to secure a group class, you must have 100% attendance and secure your down payment to ensure your group receives the discount. All group options MUST be coordinated through TOPS first as it is NOT AVAILABLE AS AN ONLINE PURCHASE. Contact David Struwing for specific details on group pricing.
What if I want to take a T.O.P.S. course again?
  • Every student who completes a T.O.P.S. Motorcycle Training Course will automatically be eligible to return for Refresher Training. This is a ride only session from 10:00am – 4:00pm on the day of any T.O.P.S. course. The registration cost for Refresher Training is $175 for TOPS I and $250 for TOPS II.
  • Please note: To maintain our low student-to-instructor ratio, a limited number of Refresher Training spots will be made available per class.
Where are you located?
  • We conduct all of our TOPS classes at Elgin Community College in the Truck Education Training Lot adjacent to Parking Lot A on the east end of campus (behind Colonial Café off McLean Blvd.)
